Hi all,
My son is 2 and a half and 100% vaccine free. He's a healthy, intelligent and full of beans little boy! Although I am sure we are doing the right thing I do live in fear of the diseases the vaccines are supposed to prevent. I also find it hard to deal with the attitude of friends/family/medics who are very pro vax. Comments like "you're just taking advantage of herd immunity" and "these diseases could kill him you know" are very difficult to ignore.
How do others cope with it? When you have a confidence crisis about your decision what re-confirms that you're doing the right thing? Do you have a standard line for others that gets them to back off?
I live in Scotland and would particularly love to know of any other parents here that are vax free too. I feel very isolated in my decision where I live. Out of all the other parents I've gotten to know at baby/toddler groups and within my family I'm the only parent who's not vaccinated.
Thanks in advance!

Sam

There is no fear of diseases as far as I am concerned on the contrary there is less to worry about as far as illnesses go. You must have observed this already how sickly, overweight and malcontented alot of kids are today compared to when we were at school. Vaccines in my opinion are directly responsible and I fail to see how Britain will ever be an economic labour providing powerhouse again.

Thanks for your reply! You're right I feel-I see so many kids these days who are chronically ill, overweight and generally in poor health. Allergies, diabetes, IBS, obesity, cancer. The list of conditions on the rise goes on and on. Although there will be many factors involved with this I do think vaccines play a huge part. My little boy has had a couple of nasty viruses (including swine flu) which have made him acutely ill for a few days. But then he has bounced back to 100% full vitality every time. He gets an illness, deals with it then its done with. Unlike his peers who seem to struggle on with bugs for weeks sometimes. So I can only hope if he got one of the nasty ones he would cope well with that too. Certainly the more I read about vaccines the more they scare me.

On a practical support level look to the "home education" community, if you can find them, as these two philosophies sit well together. For example try "Education Otherwise" for a local group in your area.

I agree you need positive feed back for your position - even if you're sure that you are right (which you most certainly are in this matter!) Ours are mid teens now, never vaccinated, healthy and all in full time state education. All three strongly understand and believe the science that supports non-vaccination and the girls have both had to stand firm against very strong Gardasil campaigns.

The other practical advice is remember nutrition and cleanliness - especially any nasty grazes/cuts.

Hi, I'm in Scotland and there is quite a few of us. I now know of 8 other mothers in my area that don't vaccinate, some I was introduced to by my homeopath and some through the arnica group. I know how you feel but I have now over come those fears. Where abouts are you?

Hi Helen,

I've just posted nearly exactly the same message. My daughter is 3 and a half and 100% vaccine free but the school she starts in September have advised me to get her "done" to conform to health and safety reasons.

She is a very healthy, happy little girl who has not suffered from anything apart from Tonsilitus since she was born (and this she recovered from in 5 days).

Unfortunately I'm in Bristol so cannot meet up but I do share your fears that we are doing the right thing.

Will I get her vaccinated before school - unless someone can give me proof these diseases are more life threatening than the vaccines then I doubt it very much.

Have faith
