Did it!
Hello! I'm Alice Jane Roberts; owner of Hat Day Designs (who did the re-design of the JABS website), and close family friend to Jackie and John Fletcher; who founded and run JABS.
On the 10th May 2008, I did a sponsored walk up Snowdon via the Pyg and Miners Track, accompanied by my sister-in-law Rae.
We started the walk at 10am, about a mile south of the car park we intended to par in; so had a good uphill mile to walk before even starting on Snowdon! The walking was fine but the rock scrambling became more difficult after a few hours - mainly because my legs felt like they were going to give way at any minute! The last half an hour to an hour was done on sheer determination because I think all my enegry ran out about three quarters of the way up. Being at the top was amazing and made everything worthwhile - regardless of the clouds. We got back down to the car at 4pm - so had been walking approximately 5 and a half hours (with half an hour lunch break at the top). I don't think I have ever appreciated a cold pint as much in my life before.
Daft quotes of the day:
Alice - "Did you just fall over?" - I said this to Rae about 3 meters from the car, 10 seconds into the walk.
Alice - "It'll be good to get back and have a shower... I know we're not even half way up yet."
Alice - "I like those bits where you go down."
Alice - "It's all this upwardness."
Rae (pointing at a flat-ish bit, in very sympathetic voice) - "Look, it's easy now Al."
Alice - "Did you just nearly fall over AGAIN?" (Rae tripped 8 times in total)
Alice - "It's just so, y'know, uphill."
Rae - "The good thing is that it is uphill, but then it's all downhill."
Rae - "I feel extremely rouge."
Alice - "They could have made a path that's flat."
Alice - "Why is there more uphillness?"
I did this walk to raise money for JABS; a charity that is of course close to my heart. Having known Jackie and John my entire life and their son Robert, who has been seriously ill since being given the MMR vaccine as a baby, I am passionate about what JABS does and wish to support them in every and any way I can.
Although the Snowdon walk is complete, you are still able to donate. Anything you can give will be greatly appreciated. Click on the 'Donate' button here for a direct link to Paypal, where you can make your donation.
Thank you so, so much to all those who have already sponsored me. I'd also like to give special thanks to Kathryn and Jon, for their added support in collecting sponsors and for spending the time to train, travel to Snowdonia and to do their sponsored walk. Thank you Rae, for joining me, being patient with me and making sure I didn't fall off.
Ben Nevis next week?
